Delhi is the capital of India; A city that is surrounded by lot of historical monuments. Certainly, Delhi has a rich history as over many hundreds of years it was under the rule of the Mauryas, Chauhans, and more importantly the Mughals. The most beautiful thing about Delhi is that it is divided into New Delhi and our very own desi Old Delhi. It will be very interesting to exploring this beautiful city which consists of lot of historic monuments, mosques, gardens and some very important architectural achievements. 

So, here is a list of top 10 tourist attractions and places to visit in Delhi.


Red Fort (Lal Qila)

The Red fort is one of the oldest monuments in India. The Red Fort was the residence of the Mughal Emperor for nearly 200 years until 1857.The for was built in 1638 with walls that stretch for over 2 km to keep out invaders. They also have a one hour sound and light show of the fort’s history each evening. It is the most popular tourist attraction in Delhi.

Timings: - 9 am. to 6 pm. Monday Closed.

Tickets: - Indian Adult (above 15 years) : 10/- , Foreginers:250/-, Children free entry.

It is located Opposite Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. You can go here from the old delhi railway station.


India Gate

India Gate is one of the most patriotically significant monuments in India. The towering archway of India Gate is a war memorial built in memory of the Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army in the World war 1.

Timings: - Always Open

Entry: Free

It is located on Rajpath near Connaught Place in New Delhi.


Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid in Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. The mosque was completed in 1656 AD with three great gates, four towers and two 40m high minarets constructed of strips of red sandstone & white marble. Its courtyard can hold an incredible 25000 devotees. There are some strict dressing rules for making an entry in the mosque.

Timings: -You can go daily except when the prayer helds from 12.15 pm to 1.45 pm.

Entry: - Free entry but charges are applied for cameras inside the mosque.

It is located near the Red Fort.


Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar at 72 meters long, is the tallest brick marinet in the world. The minar is made of bricks covered with iron intricate carvings and verses from the holy Quran. The tower has five distinct storeys. There are also a number of other historic monuments on the site. It is one of the famous and most visited places in India.

Timings: Daily until Sunset.

Tickets: - Indian Adult (above 15 years) : 10/- , Foreginers:250/-, Children free entry.

It is located in the Mehrauli area in New Delhi, Qutub minar station is the nearest metro station.


Lotus Temple

The Lotus Temple in New Delhi is a Bahai House of Worship completed in 1986. The Lotus Temple is open to all people, regardless of religion or any other qualification according to Bahai Houses of worship. The building is composed of 27 free standing marble clad petals arranged in cluster of three to form nine sides, with nine doors opening onto a central hall. It’s quite pretty in night. It is a marvellous achievement in Indian architecture.

Timings: - Daily from 9 am to 6 pm.

Entry: Free.

It is located near Nehru Place in south New Delhi.



Akshardham or Swaminarayan Akshardham complex is a Hindu temple, and a spiritual-cultural campus in New Delhi. The complex displays references of traditional Hindu and Indian culture and architechture. The complex has an Abhishek Mandap, Sahaj Anand water show, a thematic garden and three exhibitions. Cell Phones and Cameras are not allowed inside.

Timings: 9.30 am to 6.30 pm. Monday Closed.

Tickets: - Free, but tickets are required for the exhibitions.

It is located on the NH 24 near Noida Mor, New Delhi.

Paranthe wali Galli, Chandni Chowk

Chandni Chowk was established in 1650 and is the main street of Old Delhi. As one of the oldest and busiest markets in India, the streets are full of inexpensive jewellery, fabrics and electronics. For the foodies,  Paranthe wlali gali in chandni chowk is the ideal place to visit. Paranthe wali gali is the name of a narrow street in Chandni chowk which is famous for its series of shops selling paranthas.

It is located in Old Delhi near Red Fort.


Humayun’s Tomb

Humayun’s Tomb or Humayun ka Maqbara is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi. It was built in 1569 and it was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. The Humayun’s Tomb was the inspiration for the Taj Mahal’s Creation. The tomb is part of a greater complex that’s set amongst beautiful gardens. Best time to visit is in the late afternoon.

Timings: - Early morning until sunset.

It is located in Nizamuddin East area in New Delhi, it is near to the Nizamuddin railway station.


Lodhi Gardens

Lodhi Gardens is a city park situated in New Delhi. It is spread over 90 acres, containing Tomb of Sikandar Lodhi, Shisha Gumbad, and Bara Gumbad, the architectural works of Lodhi’s who ruled the parts of northern India and Punjab. Lodhi gardens provide a serene retreat from the city life. It is a very beautiful garden to spend some quality time.

Timings: - Daily, from sunrise to 8 pm.

Entry: - Free.

It is located on the Lodhi road which is not very far from The Humayun’s Tomb.



Rajpath is a ceremonial boulevard in new Delhi, that runs from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill through Vijay Chowk and India Gate to National Stadium in Delhi. It is considered to be one of the most important roads in India. It is where the annual Republic Day Parade takes place.


It is located near Connaught Place in New Delhi.
